in monitoring variables & collecting data, elements that make up the Duwamish--fish, plants, water quality, invertebrates--are taken from their context; translated to numbers, categories, and notes; flattened into datasheets. in taking apart some of these datasheets, i invite consideration of this process: scientist in relation to river: data collection as extraction, decomposition, and redefinition.
