lab [7/22 - part 1]

the process of filtration: a study in story. 2000 to 500 to 125 microns—a mesh that becomes finer and finer and finer. in one way, nearly everything can be caught at 125m, yet the protocol separates out what is captured at each stage. each sieve removes layers: only the littlest pieces remain. in both physical shape and in concept.

2000 microns

on this cloudy morning / we build a temporary home— / a bare-bones lab, composed of sink & surfaces. / a handful of woodstraw / and we begin. with each rinse / new particles collect / only to be sieved again. / we rinse and repeat / and repeat.

500 microns

extractive work: / splinters entangled in mesh / as insects in splinters / as mind in process. / the tweezers come in handy.

125 microns

limp bodies / surface / & float / & are shut away.
